In the 1960s and 1970s with the introduction of the new film format by kodak in 1965, super 8mm film quickly became popular for shooting home movies of events such as weddings, birthdays, family celebrations, vacations, holidays etc. Unsurprisingly thus, countless rolls of the standard 8mm and super 8 are stored in basements and attics in many homes. Remember analogue media such as 8mm film will eventually deteriorate beyond repair or restoration. It is better to digitise them sooner than later.

Super 8 and standard 8mm film reel size (diameter). If the film fills the entire reel the length film should be approximately 50ft, 200ft and 400ft for reels with a diameter of 3", 5" and 7" respectively. Length of film in partially full reels can be estimated by measuring the diameter of the film roll itself. For instance, 4" and 6" film rolls can be approximated to be 100ft and 300ft in length respectively.
